Traditionally in July, H&MV Engineering would host a charity fundraising cycle event that has become very popular on the Cycling Ireland event calendar. However, Covid-19 has caused H&MV to postpone this year’s cycle event. With undeterred enthusiasm, the company has decided to host a virtual charity event this year on behalf of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The aim is cover in excess of 1,000 kilometres cumulatively over the 11th and 12th July.

Participants are encouraged to walk, run, cycle, or row.

Join H&MV Club on the Strava App to track the kilometres you walk, run, cycle or row:

We have set up a GoFundMe account  where you can donate to this very worthy cause:

Atlantic oarsmen Shane Ryan is one of the notable participants as well as Annie Donnelly, who is a partially sighted national school pupil from North Tipperary.

H&MV Cycling Club will be taking to their bikes that weekend and the company running club will also be clocking their distances and drumming up interest on social media to assist in raising money for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind who’s fundraising initiatives have been hugely curtailed by Covid-19.

“PJ, John and all at H&MV have been hugely supportive of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind for the last few years. We always look forward to the H&MV cycle event. It’s well organised and enjoyable and it provides us with much needed funds and we are delighted to see the virtual event taking place this year in its place. We’re working with H&MV to promote the event and we’d encourage people to get involved” said John Burke of Irish Guide Dogs.

The weekend also coincides with what would have been the National Rowing Championships and Limerick native and CEO of Rowing Ireland Michelle Carpenter has announced Rowing Ireland’s intention to get involved in the weekend also. “We are delighted to support Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and the efforts of H&M for such a worthy cause. Irish Guide Dogs’ head office is one of our neighbours of the National Rowing Centre in Cork and we know what great work they do. We encourage our members to do their best to support the event and with clubs back training now that restrictions are eased, it is a welcome addition to the calendar.”

For those who may not have access to the Strava App and who would like to notify their distances via email, the email address is charity.events@hmveng.ie.

All monies raised with go directly to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
