About Us

H&MV Engineering is a trusted name in the electric power transmission industry. Established in 1997, we have quickly become a leading specialist in high voltage transmission and distribution systems.

Our leading position on the market allows us to expand our services worldwide – we’re currently present in Europe and Asia, exploring further possibilities to expand and finding ways to leverage the experience we gain internationally.

Our main expertise is in the design and build of substations up to 400kV. We have successfully completed projects across many sectors –transmission and distribution, renewables, data centres, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Tom has over 20 years’ experience working in the electrical contracting business having spent over 14 years with Kirby Group Engineering as their Finance Director and subsequently Business Development Director. Tom has also worked as a consultant to a variety of industries including waste to energy and mechanical contracting. Tom joined H&MV in August 2015 as Finance Director and acts as company secretary to the group’s main board and is responsible for all commercial monitoring and contract negotiations. He holds an honours degree in business studies from University of Limerick and holds a post graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting from UCD. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Electrical Estimator - London

If you’re an ambitious estimator from a DNO, ICP, industrial or commercial background, this is an excellent opportunity to undertake a wide variety of challenging, interesting and complex electrical projects. Fostering a culture of integrity, transparency and quality, we provide the ideal environment in which to build on your existing expertise. Estimating experience at 11 kV to 33 kV is a requirement and experience at 132 kV to 400 kV would be considered favourable.

As an Electrical Estimator, working alongside an established Estimating team, you will be tasked with supporting the successful delivery of our client’s projects.

Liaising with customers, you’ll carry out site surveys, attend pre-tender, post-tender and pre-order meetings and develop a strong understanding of their requirements. Additionally, upon completion of tender, you’ll ensure the timely hand-over of projects to the Contracts Management Team.

To be considered, you must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an estimator working on large scale electrical projects. A pragmatic approach to problem-solving is also essential.

As an Electrical Estimator, you must be a strong communicator with excellent organisation skills and a sharp attention to detail.

Quantity Surveyor - Ireland

Responsibilities: 

Prepare cost analysis based on the construction drawings, engineering estimates, materials required and labour involved

Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involves liaising with engineers and subcontractors.

Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation

Ensuring materials are suitable for the environment 

Negotiating costs with sub-contractors

Monitoring progress/track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjusting budget projections accordingly

Advising on legal issues and representing clients in any disputes

Select and/or source construction materials

Liaise with the client and other construction professionals such as site managers, project managers and site engineers

Visiting site to mark-up changes and negotiate variations

The ideal candidate will possess:

Relevant 3rd Level Qualification in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying

Experienced in Project Estimating, Project Cost control / Quantity Surveying. 

Good communication skills

Highly competent in communicating with clients, attending meetings, and negotiating contract agreements both pre and post-project completion.

Experience in monitoring project cashflow and forecasts.

Principle HV Design Engineer

ROLE PURPOSE

We’re looking for a Principal HV Substation Design Engineer
to add to our design team and become the driving force behind our high voltage
projects. You’ll be part of the design team for a range of multi-disciplinary
Transmission & Distribution projects internationally and throughout Ireland.
You can expect variety and travel, visiting client sites to independently
discuss, define and verify client requirements and reflecting the output in
high quality proposals and reports.

KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Technical lead on HV projects: feasibility studies, concept /detailed design,
    specifications, witness testing & acceptance
  • Designing site layouts and preparing drawings for transformers, switchgear,
    busbars and general arrangements
  • Designing both HV connections and protection arrangements for substations
  • Design Approvals of project teams’ work
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within budget and timescales
  • Ensuring all project designs are compliant with latest health & safety
    regulations

To be considered you will:

Have:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Minimum 3 Years’ Experience in a similar role with HV contractor or utility
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Eplan P8
  • Experience with a HV system modelling software package an advantage
  • Experience developing protection coordination and arc-flash studies
  • Previous office environment experience

Electrical Engineer - Norway

Health & Safety Officer - Sweden

Development Programmes:

Apprentice Development Programme - Ireland

H&MV Engineering have a unique Apprentice Development Programme for on-the-job phases of the SOLAS Electrical Apprenticeship.

This is a purpose built training, developmental and educational programme for High Voltage Apprentice Electricians and will be rolled out to all our apprentices.

The modules covered in the apprentice development programme include:

  • Design.

This programme has been designed to provide our apprentices with the ideal forum to learn and develop the skills and knowledge required within the High voltage specialist services industry through mentoring, encouragement and assessment.

Graduate Development Programme - Ireland

H&MV Engineering’s Graduate Development Programme, with a duration of 2 years, consists of 4 rotations through Commissioning and Design, with the optional component of a rotation with our Maintenance department.

Our graduate programme is focused on honing in on the skills and knowledge that the graduates gained throughout their education, moulding them into experienced Electrical Engineers.
